WAYENI COMMUNITY VOICES CONCERNS AS MAYOR LEADS WARD 11 IMBIZO
Residents of Wayeni and surrounding communities in Ward 11 have welcomed assurances from government representatives that some of the challenges affecting the area are receiving attention, following a successful Mayoral Imbizo held at the Wayeni Sports Ground on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
The engagement was led by Makhado Mayor, Her Worship Cllr Dorcus Mboyi, and brought together Members of the Executive Committee, municipal officials led by Municipal Manager Mr Kent Nemaname, members of the public as well as representatives from various government departments and public entities.
The Imbizo provided residents with an opportunity to raise service delivery concerns directly with government representatives, while departments and public entities were also able to provide assistance and respond to some of the issues affecting the community.
Bridge construction brings hope to WayeniOne of the major concerns raised by residents was the bridge connecting Wayeni, particularly the
difficulties experienced when crossing the river during times of heavy rainfall.
The issue received particular attention when Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) Board Chairperson, Mr Moses Tseli,
addressed the community and provided an update on the planned intervention.
Tseli assured residents that RAL is in the process of appointing a contractor, after which construction of the bridge would commence.
“As Roads Agency Limpopo, we are currently in the process of appointing a contractor. Once that process
has been concluded, construction of the bridge will follow,” said Tseli.
The assurance was met with loud cheers from residents, underscoring the importance of the bridge
to the community and the difficulties residents have faced when the river becomes difficult to cross during heavy rains.
Mayor Mboyi also assured residents that the concerns raised during the engagement would not simply end with the Imbizo.
She committed the Municipality to following up on the issues raised and working with relevant stakeholders to find solutions,
particularly on matters that fall within the responsibilities of other government institutions.
“We have heard the concerns raised by the people of Wayeni, and we will look into these matters. Where the Municipality has the responsibility and capacity to intervene, we will do so, and where matters fall under other
government departments or entities, we will engage them to ensure that the concerns of our communities receive the necessary attention,” said Mayor Mboyi.
The Mayor said the Imbizo is an important platform for the Municipality to listen
directly to communities and understand the challenges they face.
“Our responsibility is to listen to our communities and work with them to find
practical solutions to the challenges they are experiencing. We may not resolve every matter immediately,
but we will ensure that the issues raised are taken forward and followed up with the relevant stakeholders,” she said.
The presence of various government departments and public entities allowed residents to engage directly with officials responsible
for different services, while some residents were also assisted with their immediate needs.
The Ward 11 Mayoral Imbizo forms part of the Municipality's ongoing efforts to strengthen direct engagement with
communities and ensure that residents have a platform to raise service delivery concerns with
elected representatives and government officials.
Makhado Local Municipality will continue working with communities, government departments and
relevant public entities to address the concerns raised and advance service delivery in Ward 11 and across the municipal area.
